Operating Hours

The UKZN Westville Campus Sports Facilities operate during the following hours:

  • Monday to Friday: 08:00 – 22:00
  • Weekends: Closed, unless facilities have been pre-booked and approved for official University activities or authorised external events.

Operating hours may be adjusted during University vacations, examination or graduations periods, public holidays, or for scheduled maintenance.

The University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) Westville Campus offers a comprehensive range of world-class indoor and outdoor sports facilities that support high-performance sport, recreation, teaching, competitions, conferences, and community engagement.

Facilities

Multi-Purpose Sports Centre

The Multi-Purpose Sports Centre is a versatile indoor venue capable of hosting a wide range of sporting codes and events. The facility includes:

  • Four indoor volleyball courts
  • Two indoor five-a-side soccer courts (convertible into two netball courts)
  • Indoor basketball courts
  • Badminton courts
  • Table tennis facilities
  • Indoor hockey training space
  • Gymnastics area
  • Boxing training area

The venue is suitable for training, tournaments, exhibitions, recreational programmes, and sporting events.

The Sports Centre also offers excellent meeting and hospitality facilities, including:

  • A fully equipped conference room with tables and chairs for meetings, workshops, seminars, and training sessions
  • A VIP Lounge suitable for official functions and hospitality
  • A café with:
    • Industrial stove
    • Cold room
    • Refrigerators
    • Food preparation facilities

The Sports Centre provides spacious amenities for users, including:

  • Two large male ablution facilities
  • Two large female ablution facilities

Indoor Heated Swimming Pool

The campus features a heated indoor swimming pool suitable for training, rehabilitation, aquatic programmes, and year-round swimming.

The facility includes:

  • Male changing rooms
  • Female changing rooms

Olympic Outdoor Swimming Pool

The outdoor aquatic facility consists of a 50-metre Olympic-size swimming pool, ideal for competitive swimming, training, galas, and aquatic events.

Westville Campus boasts a variety of outdoor sporting venues, including:

  • Two outdoor netball courts
  • Three tennis courts
  • One outdoor basketball court
  • Two full-size soccer fields
  • One rugby field, which can be converted into two full-size soccer fields for tournaments and training

The dedicated squash complex comprises:

  • Six squash courts
  • One show court featuring a glass back wall and spectator seating area, suitable for tournaments and championship matches
